Nervous System
You're not anxious. You're dysregulated. Here's the difference.
Reframing anxiety not as a personality flaw — but as a nervous system signal worth listening to.

Anxiety has become one of the most overused words in modern wellness — and one of the most misunderstood. We use it to describe everything from mild nervousness before a presentation to a full physiological state of terror that makes leaving the house feel impossible. But lumping these experiences together does us a disservice. Because if we call everything anxiety, we stop asking the more useful question: what is my nervous system actually trying to tell me?
The autonomic nervous system operates on a simple principle — safety or threat. When it detects danger, real or perceived, it mobilises. Heart rate increases. Breathing shallows. Digestion slows. Muscles tighten. This is not a malfunction. This is brilliant, ancient design kept us alive for thousands of years. The problem arises when the system gets stuck in that activated state — when the threat has long passed but the body hasn't received the signal that it's safe to come down.
That stuck state is dysregulation. And it responds to body-based intervention far more effectively than it responds to reassurance, logic, or willpower. You cannot think your way out of a nervous system response. You can only work with it — through breath, movement, sensation, and presence.
Understanding this reframe changes everything about how we approach anxiety. It stops being a character flaw or a sign that something is fundamentally wrong with you. It becomes information. Your body raising its hand, asking for a kind of attention it hasn't received yet.
The next time anxiety rises, try asking not "what am I afraid of?" but "what does my body need right now to feel safe?" Notice how even that question creates a small shift — a tiny exhale, a moment of softening. That's your nervous system responding. That's where healing begins.
